The show begins with Ryan alone in the pool house, suspended indefinitely from school and not talking openly with Sandy about the reasons behind his fight with Oliver. Sandy says that if Ryan wants to remain with the family, he won't leave the premises without asking for permission first. Back at school, Oliver and Marissa continue to bond, playing hooky while Oliver plays the role of head honcho in Marissa's life. He tells her who to talk to and even erases a voice mail from Ryan behind her back.
Luke become suspicious of Oliver and consults with friends from Pacific, only to find out that no one named Natalie Bishop - Oliver's supposed ex -- was ever a student there. Ryan confronts Marissa with this information, but she leaves him in a huff, finding refuge in Oliver's hotel room.
Meanwhile, Kirsten breaks up with Julie on behalf of Caleb and the fiery red head quits her job as interior designer. When Luke stops by the Cooper household in order to pick up clothes for Marissa, he comforts a crestfallen Julie. They almost kiss. The sexual tension mounts.
Seth spends a majority of the episode with both Anna and Summer, educating Summer about comic books while ignoring his girlfriend. Despite Sandy's advice to his son and Anna's obvious disgust, Seth continues to flirt with Summer and this love triangle finally ends when Anna breaks up with Seth because he obviously still has feelings for Summer.
Back to the Oliver intrigue: when Marissa finds out that Oliver was lying about Natalie, she confronts him about it and he responds with some yelling and head slapping. In a panic, she calls Ryan for help, but the call is abruptly ended when Oliver pulls out a gun. Sandy and Ryan rush over to the penthouse, as Marissa cries for help and security opens the door. As Oliver threatens to shoot himself, Ryan calmly and soothingly talks him out of it. The gun is laid on the floor, Oliver is taken to the hospital and Marissa and Ryan hug. The episode ends with Seth and Ryan in the pool house, Seth apologizing for not backing up his pseudo brother and the duo re-connecting.
